standard good bistro fare
the food here is good. what you see is what you get. the crowd can be a little frou frou and a bit pretentious. the menu is standard - the croque monseur and the hamburger are both excellent. it's not a to-die-for dining experience but it's pleasant, and i'd recommend it if you're looking to spend a little cash the next time you're on hayes valley shopping jaunt.

Best Gourmet Hamburger
Absinthe has a very nice menu, everything is prepared expertly, though the cuisine isn't very innovative. The hamburger, available on the bar menu, is the best I've had (better than Zuni). Served with pickled cucumbers and topped with a marinated heirloom tomato, gorgonzola and spice onions, gryyere, or a fried egg, the meat is ground fresh, so you can order it as rare as you'd like. Add the crispy shoestring potatoes for a great meal.

Not worth the price...
Not very generous in pouring expensive drinks and the service is somwhat pedestrian. Food is OK, but not worth writing about.

Upheld high expectations!
I walked by this restaurant so many times wanting to visit. I had huge expectations considering the gorgeous atmosphere. I enjoyed my meal here so much and would recommend it for an expensive night out!
