What a find!
Found this restaurant on menupages while looking for Tapas restaurants. Despite the location on Lombard - not quite the shi-shi Union St three blocks down - we were pleasantly surprised to find that the food, service, and ambience were all excellent. Each tapas plate arrived with a simple, elegant presentation and virtually everything we had was delicious! Definitely try the sauteed mushrooms and unusual spinach combination (as a vegetarian, I was thrilled they had more options than just potatoes. My husband enjoyed his meat and seafood choices. Thanks to the menu on menupages we knew our options in advance.) Every person who served us (there were about 4) was pleasant, attentive, knowledgeable, and unobtrusive. The interior was rather romantic - white tablecloths, walls decorated with collectibles like pottery and birdcages (!), flowers and little lights everywhere, and Spanish music in the distance. Even dessert (when we were already too full) was good. Other than the somewhat expensive wine choices, and a desire for some change in music, Alegrias is a new favorite and highly recommended!

Alegrias Tapas
Alegrias restaurant has authentic Spanish cuisine including tapas. It is family owned and run. The food is wonderful! I have been going there for years. They have fabulous homemade sangria too. Some of my favorites are the melted cheese tapas, the paella, and the diced fried potato tapas! Delicious! The inside is charming and similar to something you would find in Spain. I highly recommend it.
