    Underrated

The numbers from the past reviews would have made me skip this nice little place had I not been here before. It's not fancy at all, but I got a good tuna roll for $4.99. I don't know where others get sushi, but that's CHEAP. I had delicious hamachi and the salmon was very good. The spicy tuna roll was a little too hot, but good. The service was great.

    Underrated and Fun

This place is really underrated -- which is probably due to the somewhat dingy outside appearance / signage. Inside it's surprisingly cozy, and the staff is super, super fun and accomodating. Now, this is one of those places where you have to know what to order. For example, most people go straight for the sushi menu -- big mistake. The steak udon is one of the best in the city, esp. medium rare. The tempura is light and crispy with great sauce. The eel is one thing I'd advise against, but most of the rolls are tasty. Whatever you get, the prices are very reasonable. This place is also great for drinking parties because the staff gets in the mix and drinks w/you. They encourage you to be a little loud and let loose -- definitely not something you find at every Japanese restaurant. Overall I have to say this place is one of my favorite laid-back dining spots.

    Subpar is a Euphemism

I should've known about this place when I went in to pick up my order at 7pm on a saturday and there were 2 people eating. About 10 tables, and the whole sushi bar, were empty, and this place is in the middle of the castro! I ordered the rock 'n' roll and dragon rolls, both of which had eel that didn't taste right, and which had way too many bones (I expect a few bones, not 2 in every bite). The avocado was a little old, and overall, I spent $20 on two rolls, ate about half of each one, and threw the rest away. A disappointment.
