    Good neighborhood fare

This is good "neighborhood food" without being fancy. I usually get food to go. Burgers are good, meatball sandwich is huge and tasty, and other things are OK. You just have to limit your expectations, but all in all very good value. Service is really hit and miss. If you sit at the bar and they tell you they will bring you the food when it's ready, don't rely on that, better check when you think it should be done. Also if the boss isn't there the cooks can be pretty unfriendly. I've had a number of times where things weren't prepared up to snuff or they plain got the order wrong. If the boss is not there don't expect to be treated well with a complaint. These guys are pretty arrogant and full of themselves, and they really shouldn't be left without supervision. That said I would recommend this place as a down the earth local place, decent food at ok prices. And on a good night its even above average.

    Not recommended

The beet salad is arugula with cheap olive oil and a sprinkle of canned beets and burnt walnuts. The pizza with chicken tastes exactly like the pizza with pepperoni. The cheese is gummy and the crust chewy.

    Addictive!

I have eaten or had take out from Basso's I'm guessing a dozen times since it opened. While I must admit convenience may play a big role in this fact (live within walking distance), I can honestly say the food is always solid. The sausage pizza & chicken ceasar salad are addictively good. Service has always been great for me. And being attached to a bar = heavy pours of wine, which is always a bonus! Basso's is straight up neighborhood grub done right.

Great sausage pizza & average margarita pizza

I ordered the sausage pizza which had fresh mushrooms and garlic and loved it....Was thin and very flavorful. I also ordered the margarita pizza, which I was expecting to be more like the NY pizza. Instead it had tomatoes on it.. normally it's fresh mozz, tomato sauce and basil. All in all the pizza was good but a bit pricey.

    great

Food was great. Had the burger, loved it. My friend had the mashed potatoes and cesaer salad and loved it as well. Wanted to come back another time, but it was to late, we were about to ride our bikes fro the ballpark just to order the same thing!! A must for the average middle class sf local

    average at best

it's your basic italian american restaurant... connected to a bar. The roma (tomato) sauces was good. Lots of garlic and fresh flavors. salad was ok... basic. Service was fairly inattentive. 1 waiter for 10 tables. with a busser who was ordered around a lot. he seemed harried, and couldn't really care.

The food and service here isn't bad but we won't be going back because the owner was really rude.
