    Ownership Change?

We have been to virtually every restaurant in West Portal, and, by the way, many nationwide, from 5 star to blue plate. The ratings for the other restaurants/eateries in West Portal are accurate. THIS cafe was a total disappointment, and I have NEVER written a review before! The quality of food was average or below...it is a "Country Kitchen" atmosphere with inferior food and exorbitant prices. Each of our meals was $40 with beer/wine(one glass each). We left and went to a local Starbuck's and discussed the bad experience. Our conversation was overheard by a long time patron who told us that the place had just changed ownership and had gone downhill! Sorry, I don't want to cost people their livelihood, but we will never go back...there are many other fine restaurants in this small area.

    Great Old Find

Used to eat here years ago. Every thing was great on this Saturday brunch. Companion had crispy polenta with syrup, bacon and chicken-apple sausage. I enjoyed a chicken salad sandwich with fresh fruit, delicious. They don't serve soup on the weekends but we will definitely return for more great entrees.

    Great restaurant

I have been dining at this restaurant for well over 10 years, I have yet to be disappointed. It is consistent California cuisine. They ALWAYS have amazing soups, they have an excellent Romaine w/ Gouda salad, their polenta is wonderful and so on and so on...I disagress with previous reviews which called the restaurant overpriced. I think you are getting what you pay for here.

    Great Neighborhood Place!

Café for All Seasons is my favorite neighborhood place. The food is consistently good and the service is attentive and friendly. I often eat out alone and the staff always makes me feel welcome. They never bother me if I want to finish a chapter in my book; they just keep filling up my coffee cup. The salads are outstanding. The greens are always crisp and dry; the dressings are delicious. Everything is very fresh. One of my favorites is the seafood stew. Yummy! As far as substitutions go, my requests are usually accommodated. The only time I’ve been turned down is if I ask for something not on the menu. I highly recommend this great neighborhood place.

    Not worth all the hype!

Went in with a friend and wanted to order chicken breast. It came with a side pasta. I politely asked the server to please substitute a green salad for the pasta. He said he couldn't substitute anything. I thought I'd misheard him! I asked to speak with the manager who repeated the same thing. "We never do substitutions. How would we know what to charge?" I said, "I will pay whatever it says on the menu & he refused. I told him I had never, ever had a restaurant not agree to substitute. He said, "well, that is our policy." I walked out and will never go back there. What a dumb policy. People have food allergies or special diets- what is the big deal to accommodate people? There are better places to eat. Don't waste your money on this overpriced place.

    Awesome neighborhood food for all

A friend took me to the Cafe for All Seasons in 1994 and I've been going back ever since. I recommend the house salads with homemade dressings (cremy chive is my choice). For entrees, the pork tenderloin scallops in dijon creme mustard sauce with capers is great as are the chicken scallopini and the chicken picatta. For desserts, I recommend the apple cake or the crisp. My partner says that the crisp is the best in San Francisco -- with plenty of fruit. It's so good that my parents insist on eating there every other night when they come from out of town. It's a great place to take your parents or other older people. The only drawback is that the restaurant is full of hard surfaces so it can get a bit noisy.
