Good food, meh atmosphere
Having been away from home for a couple months in a place with no decent Chinese food (and coming from Hong Kong!), I wanted to find a restaurant with decent dimsum. Canton is not pretty, and their service is a little sparse (though friendly), but the dimsum was good. While it can't compare to dimsum at home, it definitely hit the spot and dealt with the homesickness (while a bowl of congee at some other Chinatown restaurant I can't remember the name of really disappointed and aggravated my craving for good Chinese food.) The best is when the dimsum comes not from the carts being pushed around, but fresh from the kitchen when it's still steaming hot. Unfortunately, this only happens when the cart runs out of what you want and they go and have the kitchen make more. If you're in the mood for some dimsum, I would recommend this place if you can't afford a ticket to visit HK and get some of the original. By American Chinese food standards, it's tasty and affordable!

Yum yum!
I travel a lot and had heard about Canton from many a person... glad I was willing to walk from my hotel on OFarrell to this place. WELL worth it! the interior was a little much to be desired, but the food? superb. the cart service was great even to the point of suggesting things that weren't even on thier own cart. the seafood was fresh, and not too fishy, the buns were soft when they needed to be without being too doughy. I went more than once in my 5 day stay in SF. my friend who is more hardcore about dim sum was impressed even. i have another trip planned again with a large group of friends and intend on taking them there a few tmies while we're visiting. oh yeah, the restaurant is roomy enough where a party of 1 or 10 can be comfortable.

THE BEST ramen soup!
The BBQ Pork ramen soup with baby spring vegi's is an absolute MUST! It is sooo good once you try it you'll be hooked. This is by far the best chinese soup I've ever had! A real yummy taste treat.
