Castagnola was my Gr. Grandmother's maiden name - so I had to try this place. It looks good from the outside, but in the age of the internet, there can't be enough unsuspecting tourists coming to SF to suggest that they stay in business on their food alone. No one is ever going to eat at this place twice, so it's a mystery to me how they keep the door's open. I wish they would change their name.

Service was almost ok. Food, not good. Crab cakes seem to be frozen, instead of fresh. Bread came cold to the table. Tap beer came warm and took long time to be replaced. Price fairly expensive for food that is not really fancy. You probably can buy frozen food and taste better.

Our first experience was awesome. Great food and service. Last visit, Thanksgiving, DRY turkey, ham, stuffing, (did not eat)' and the shellfish coippino had broken mussel shells and broken clam shellsh... Like eating grit. Will not return.

My daughter and I went to a football game to watch her Colts beat the 49ers :(I like Kap!) and by the way don't eat at Candlestick park it sucks, lol... Back to Castagnala's, before writing my review I read some that were already writen and it sounds like don't order the prime rib (we did not have any,ha) but if you want seafood this is the place to go! I mean who goes to the bay for cow and not seafood (just my opion, haha) I have eaten around SF for a few years (30ish yrs) and used to have another favorite until we ate here, now it's our fav! The calamari was amazing, the chunks of crab-meat in the crabcakes were huge, my daughter lobsterbisk was good to great and my lobstertail melted in our mouths... Our waiter was a little quiet but he was on the ball... Could not ask for anything more but maybe a cheaper bill, lol, but we tought it was worth it

Went to San Fran for my birthday. Choose this restaurant. First ordered prime rib med rare...my husband had filet mignon. My prime rib was ice cold. They took it away and came back later with a nasty gray prime rib (I guess they reheated in microwave. Finally offered to redo my meal--but by then my husband was almost done. I said never mind. Just watched my husband eat. The manager was walking around greeting tables, but trust me he walked right by us never even acknowledging our table. And I know the waitor spoke to him. I was expecting anything free, but a nice apology and some sort of comp would have been nice. Never again

Lobster bisque was good. Seafood cocktail disappointing. Seafood sauté average. Service slow
