I am a lunch time, in-and-out expert. I think the people that are complaining about the staff being rude are simply not savvy when it comes to wait staff that are trying to be quick and efficient, and those people probably are not from a diverse city like SF. I don't remember when I went to a restaurant to order a 'smile' off the menu. I have had waitstaff be confused, but never ever, rude. The food is as fresh as it gets. The comments on sugar are baseless. Compared to other lunch-time chinese restaurants this place and it's food are consistent, the presentation is pleasing, and the food is excellent. Long lines were mentioned. Why? Because this place is very popular. And, the best part of the meal is the value. For as little as $5.95 you get the best, most fresh food value for the price ..... right down to the pot of tea and ice-water with lemon. Did those 'critics' ever go to a Chinese restaurant where you can even get charged for rice... on the side? My fellow reviewer is right.....get over yourselves.... most other Chinese restaurants can't hold a candle to Eliza's when it comes to portion size, presentation, freshness and taste of the food. And the waiting list tables at Eliza's proves it.

who cares if the waiters don't smile, smile-nazis! the service is fast and always covers everything you need, they'll happily educate you on their more exotic dishes, the folks are friendly and helpful if you've been around a while...and the food is outstanding. say it again: fresh, delicious, flavorful, and fast if you want it to be. if you want to stay and chat a while, they've never been less than accommodating. sounds to me like someone's got a grudge.

I'm always hesitant when going to a place void of any Asian clientele. The food is as I expected, all show and no substance. The secret ingredient is SUGAR, and the big presentation is pineapple wedges. My neighbor raves about this place, quite frankly, I don't get it. The service is rude and dismissive, the 1980s decor is tired, the lines are too long. I just don't get it. If I want to get abused, I should at least get great food.

We go here for lunch, and sometimes dinner. It's a good lunch deal. I agree with what the other reviews though. The people are absolutely rude. Every time we eat there I try my hardest to get our server to smile.... just a little one. Never happens... not even close. They have so much attitude, that for a restaurant with food of this mediocre caliber I'm surprised they still are open. It looks cool inside, but I constantly wonder about the collection of glass bamboo in the back that resembles water pipes. Odd.

I called in a take out order at Eliza's on a Sunday evening. They must have been extremelly busy because when I asked the man who answered the phone to place my order from the beginning of our conversation he was extremelly rude! I said-- Sorry, I cannot hear you well, can you hear me? He said, yes, what do you want? I said, I like to place a take out order of shrimp and vegetables just steamed, can you do that for me? No ma'm, we don't alter what is not offered on the menu. Can you please ask your manager? NO! I said, excuse me? He said, I said NO! Can I please talk to your supervisor? Click. He hung up on me! I am not exagerating; this is the treatment I received at this restaurant, at which I had eaten a few times before. I'll be very honest, the food is good, not excellent, but good chinese food. The service is polite, but they are not friendly, and obviously not service-oriented. This is my first time ever complaining about the treatment I received at a restaurant. It was truly incredible. So, if you don't mind being treated rudely at a restaurant for whatever reason and are looking for decent chinese food, you "may" want to try Eliza's. I vote with my feet; I'll never ever go back to Eliza's.
