Not the best Chinese food in SF
This is a very lovely restaurantand right in the middle of Chinatown but it is not, in my opinion, among the best Chinese restarurants in San Francisco by any stretch of the imagination. It is a good place to take friends from out of town for a drink but I wouldn't take them here for dinner. There are loads of great Chinese restaurants in SF which may not have as nice atmosphere as The Empress of China but serve food far superior to it. Just ask around within the Chinese community and they'll tell you.

The best Chinese food I've ever had
I think the title of my review says it all. I've eaten Chinese food in NYC, Philly, and LA. None of the other restaurants compare to the Empress of China. There was a long line outside of House of Nanking, so we walked & stumbled upon the Empress of China. It is absolutely amazing. If I remember correctly, it was about $20 per plate & worth every penny. The atmosphere is decent, and it's 5 or 6 floors above street level. Not much of a view, but moody & nice inside. The food is just absolutely wonderful!!
