My wife and I are both of Italian dissent so we are extremely critical when it comes to Italian food. We both grew up in households where our parents and grandparents made their own meatballs and gravy (yes true Italians really call it gravy and not sauce or meat sauce). If you want neuvo cuisine type food maybe Franchino isn't your cup of tea. But if you want great pasta with meatballs, and great gravy that is all homemade by Mama who is originally from the Amalifi Coast of Italy, this is your place. The restaurant is small and fills up quickly so get there early. We arrived by 6pm and had no problem getting a table. Arrive at 7pm and the place is packed. The owner makes all of her own pasta and gravy and you can tell. Her daughters work as waitresses and they are all a delight. We're from the Phila area originally and these folks made us feel right at home. The chianti is great accompaniment and if you save room for dessert, the homemade tiramisu is to die for. To be frank, I can't figure out how anyone could give this restaurant a 1 rating. The food is just too good. Maybe if you want quiet romantic, you could deduct points for the ambiance but still, the food more than compensates. I cannot say enough good things about Franchino. We would absolutely make this one of our eateries on our next trip.

We just had the absolute BEST Italian dinner we have had in a very long time! We always visit the Italian sections in each city we visit and this by far was one of the best!! It is a family run business who work extremely hard to make it so successful! The deserts - tiramisu is to die for and the lemon tart was the best! Thank you!!

We just had a wonderful dinner at Franchino. This is a terrific family owned restaurant with great atmosphere and INCREDIBLE food. The Eggplant Parm and the Veal Pizzaiola were absolutely to die for. The staff (family) are wonderful people who made us feel so welcome. An incredible experience..... and oh by the way, the Tiramisu......yummmmmm.

We recently ate at Franchino to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary. It was our first visit but it won't be our last. Food was great (try the cheesecake!), wine list quite large, venue is very intimate...the owner and his family make for a special evening.

I went to this restaurant while visiting SF from New York City. What a delight! A true "mom and pop" italian restaurant. The food was amazing all of "pop" recipes! The service was amazing as well we were helped by mom, pop, and their grandson! We started with the bruschetta and had fettucini alfredo and spagetti carbonara! Fantastic!! Everything was reasonably priced and delicious! Not to mention mom and pop were so personable and made certain our experience was fantastic! I was only in san fran one night, but if i had another i'd probably eat there again!

On vacation in San Fran from the east coast, we wanted to have a great Italian meal. We finaly chose Franchino on Columbus it was not a disapointment! This restaurant is very small, but the owners are very nice and greet you with a smile. Food choice is awesome & the pasta was cooked perfectly. I suggest the Aribiata and the meat sauce with penne. They also have a good selection of wine. We loved it so much that we are going back during our vacation for a second time! It's one of the greatest Italian we've had in a long time and definitely the best in SF on our trip!
