The food is consistently impressive. I have not had better Indian food in the Bay Area. Prices are modest for the quality. One man cooks, another scurries about frantically waiting tables, smiling all the while. This can make for a fine spectacle, but not smooth operation. When the place is crowded- often- expect a long wait before food appears. Telephone orders for takeout produce well-packaged food at the promised time. This has become my regular choice at Guddu de Karahi.

Everybody who knew and loved Lahore Kahari restaurant in the Tenderloin was sad when Chef Zulfiqar Haider sold his business and left. It just wasn't the same. How could it be, when Guddu's own personal cooking talents disappeared? Rejoice! Guddu has returned, this time to the cleaner, easier to reach (and park) outer Sunset District. Our first visit confirmed that there is no diminution in the quality of the cooking, all of it done by Guddu himself, personally. The tandoori, whether fish, lamb or traditional chicken, is first rate. I recommend any dish with Saag (spinach) in it -- the Saag Gosht (with lamb) is particularly good, but so is the Saag Paneer (with farmer's cheese) and the versions with chicken and with potatoes and fenoegreek. Oh, just go ahead and order anything -- it's all great. And have it with Naan!

Horrible experience! We waited 1.5 hrs for our food! Maybe I could accept that since it was about 7pm on a Saturday night, but what was NOT acceptable or reasonable was that 4 tables who came after us got served before us--including friends of the waitress, as well as the take out orders. Inquiries for our order got the typical "I'll check" or "it's coming soon", but to no avail and not much by way of apologies. We were ready to leave when the food finally came--definitely not worth the wait. The lamb was dry and sauces spicy despite the "mild" description on the menu. I would NOT go back or recommend.
