Best Portuguese Food in the Bay Area

If you love great Portuguese food, wine and service (as good as in Lisbon), and a spectacularly beautiful venue to enjoy your meal, this restaurant is a must. The Portuguese and Spanish wines are excellent, the sardinhas and bacalhau are delicious, and the people are warm and friendly. Bon Appetit!

Best Portuguese Cuisine Spot in the West!

Finally, I found a place in San Francisco where I can go to enjoy a warm Caldo Verde (green broth) and Bacalhau (cod fish) without having to go Lisbon or Porto for the real thing... Authentic food, an elegant place, and a great friendly service! I couldn't believe when friend Amalia (actually born in Portugal) told me about Horatius - right in my neighborhood of Potrero Hill, San Francisco. They have this huge screen they call it "Barn Cinema" to project films or sport games. It is called that way because of the larger than life red barn door built on the premises from recycled barn wood according to their website. Horatius is just not a restaurant but sort of an upscale market of gourmet products. You can buy Portuguese olive oil and wine but also products made here in California... from wines to soaps. But you can also find fancy candy from France or pasta from Italy. I was constantly disappointed not to be able to showcase the great food of Portugal among my friends and now I have a place: Horatius. I finally took my mother and father and they were so happy... and mostly proud. They even took home some Portuguese-made soaps made in Porto where they are originally from. Living in San Francisco and not having to wait until I went to my parents' home in the East Coast or to Portugal for "that taste the touches the soul"... I'm so happy I found this place five blocks from my house! Without reservations I highly recommend Horatius to anyone looking for an alternative cuisine.
