    From the Long Ago

Evidently, this review will be misleading because it is from the 1960's. Lefty O'Doul's had strictly a male clientele then, but my friend Charlline and I liked to go there on our lunch hour and we got the same good service the men did. There was sawdust on the floor and no TV's. Big wooden booths, as I recall. I would have the prime rib sandwich on a wonderful fresh-baked roll. The food was spectacularly delicious and also cheap. If I ever went back to San Francisco, I would check it out again. From what I read on these reviews, though, things may be sadly different now. The way of the world.

    Great Deal on Union Square

Ate here twice on a recent trip. Experienced both sit down and to-go service. Excellent value for the location. You can get a full hot meal for $15 in a city where most dinners will cost twice that. Corned Beef is the best meat selection. Order and pick up as you go cafeteria type serving format, no table service except for drinks - full bar with good drink values.

    Lefty O'Douls

Lefty O'Doul's is a cafeteria-style restaurant. It's a good price performer. The roast beef is terrible, full of gristle and tough as shoe leather. Don't expect a real prime rib dinner for $10. The corned beef, on the other hand, was excellent. The Guinness was served too cold. If one picks the entrees carefully, it's a good place to eat inexpensively. I ate there several times during a visit to San Francisco.

    best time in SF

We were staying at the Saint Francis across the street when we discovered Lefty O Doul's.. Our family went for Breakfast and I had the Corn-beef Hash absolutely the best!! The kids had the home run they loved it. We came back at Night for the Piano bar and had a great time. During our stay we visited 5 time during our 7 day visit. Highly recommend

    Not so much...

I went with my family, there were six of us. The service was slow, the food was mediocre and the portions were small especially considering the price. I will never go back and I would suggest everyone skip it altogether.
