Nothing disappointing about this place!
Definitely worth the trip to experience real deal barbeque! A-hole-in-the-wall place located in the Lower Haight, the atmosphere is bright, fun and funky, the music great. It's a fast casual, counter service restaurant where everything is made from scratch, as evidenced by watching the cooks in the small open kitchen. There's plenty of menu options to choose which can fit any hunger level or pocketbook budget. My husband and I shared a Minnie's Taster with the recommended trifecta of smoked meats: beef brisket, St. Louis style pork ribs, and chicken. All were delicious, each with their own individual flavor profiles. Sauces were served on the side, which made mixing and matching fun. Don't expect these sauces to be full of thick corn syrup and overly sweet, they're not store bought or made to satisfy those tastes--they actually have a lot more flavor and a little goes a long way. The taster came with two sides, we choose the beans which were full flavored and had bits of meat in them, and the greens which were tangy and peppery. We ordered an extra portion of macaroni and cheese, which was not a gussied up bistro or other style mac and cheese, it was homey, creamy and satisfying; with an extra cornbread muffin, two beers and a slice of their homemade, delicious sweet potato pie, our bill came to just under $50. The service was friendly, helpful and patient, the meal was full-flavored and soul satisfying--we left fat and happy.

Why are they calling this the "best"?
The meat was cold and chewy, the sauces were no good. One tastes like spice cake and kraft BBq saice...ugh....what were they thinking? And the sides......the greens tasted exactly like hot sweet pickles out of the jar....very vinegary and SWEEEEET.. The prices looked decent until I started eating. Atmosphere was fun but a little loud.

Cool and Comfortable place
I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with macaroni & cheese, corn muffin, and banana pudding for dessert. My boyfriend had the brisket with potato salad and macaroni & cheese. We wanted to order the garlic fries but they were all out. All this food plus 2 sodas came up to about $30+ kind of expensive for cafeteria style eating. Very comfortable place though. I liked the fact that you have rolls of paper towels on each table and that you can get your own tap soda. When I looked around, everyone was eating ribs. I wonder if they're any good. Too bad I don't eat pork or beef. I would go there again to get the pulled chicken sandwich and banana pudding. Hopefully they'll have garlic fries the next time I go there. So you get an idea of what I thought of each item, I rated each item individually down below. Pulled chicken sandwich: 5 macaroni & cheese: 3 corn muffin: taste: 5 ; texture:2 (the corn meal was like raspberry seeds) brisket: 3 (not much taste) potato salad: 4.5 banana pudding: 5

BBQ where the sauce is optional
Great BBQ! They let the meat do the talking and offer their three sauces as a side on each table. The brisket is especially good with a nice, smokey taste and is so tender you don't even need a knife.
