After hearing about Mescolanza on Check Please! we decided to give it a try. When we walked in for an early dinner (6p) we were seated in a nice table near the window. The atmosphere is pleasant and though it is a relatively small restaurant, we found it to be cozy and didn't feel the tables were situated too close together at all. I ordered the Insalata Mista and my dinner companion ordered the Radicchio Salad with Gorgonzola Cheese. I enjoyed my salad very much and though it consisted only of butter lettuce and Roma tomatoes, it was quite delicious. The dressing was perfect. My companion enjoyed her salad selection as well. The bread we were served was fresh though we would have preferred sourdough. We ordered the Capellini Pomodoro and the Veal Picatta. I thought my Capellini was decent but must admit it wasn't the absolute best I've ever had. As for the Veal Picatta, my friend said the dish was very good and found the vegetables that accompanied it to be prepared perfectly. We both had the Bogle Cabernet and were happy with our selection. After dinner, we had the Cheesecake and the Spumoni which were both very good. As for the service, it was fine but we've had better. As for the prices, we found them to be a little on the high side for the neighborhood. All in all, it was a good experience and we might return but with all the fabulous restaurants in this city there are others that really are outstanding and those are the restaurants we find ourselves returning to again and again. I just don't know if Mescolanza measures up, all things considered.

There are more authentic and better Italian places in SF, but this is a very good find in this neighborhood. Very charming atmosphere, good menu, and reasonable prices. Worth a visit!

We had a wonderful meal with great service... The people were very nice, non intrusive yet very attentive... We recommend this place highly, and hope to be back very soon... The flavors were non-pretentious but slightly intense... The carpaccio rules, as does the radiccio salad... The pesto kicked ace... Please give this place a gander, you will not be dissapointed...

The price is just a bonus. This place is absolutely terrific. I feel lucky to have found it. Planning to go back soon, and I live in Texas!

Been going here for years, and it's always a treat. The best value neighborhood Italian restaurant in SF. I think it's employee-owned. Try the Pansotti!
