I am a mexican food lover who is always after a good new place to explore. Papalote looked a nice bright place from outside which I noticed before. So when I was hungry to eat one Saturday evening I decided to go there. The place was packed with young people. The atmosphere I liked a lot but when it came to eating what I had ordered, I was so disappointed. I ordered a Carne Asada dinner plate with Refried black beans & corn tortias. The meat was so tough that you could hardly cut it with your steak knife. It was so overcooked. Instead of refried black beans I got pinto. I also got flour tortia instead of corn that I originally ordered. I am so dissapointed in the quality of the food that I can say this was my first & last time going there.

Hands down the best taqueria in the Mission. I am hesitant to review it as it is all ready so popular that there is always a line and just barely enough seating... so don't tell your friends. I love mexican food but I'm very particular. This is the only taqueria in the entire Mission that I'll eat at. I grew up in SF and have tried most of the taquerias in the Mission (and elsewhere) and they can't compete with Papalote. I don't want to pick grissle and cartelige out of my mouth ever when biting into a burrito and I've had that experience at way too many taquerias in SF. Papalote is cooked to order, delicious and the meats are clean and they marinade their chicken. mmmmm... Also, their salsa actually has some kick. Most other taquerias have toned it down to appease the American appetite. As a side note they always have good music (I've heard the owner is in the music industry, although no confirmation).

Huge portions and delicious fillings make this a great deal. The grilled tofu is awesome.
