Great authentic Chinese food. Hole in the wall

Great food and I felt like I was in China. You walk through the kitchen to get to the dining area up the stairs. Best Chinese food I have ever had!

    it was once

My last visit to Sam Wo's was last week(7/26/09). I have been going to this restuarant for over 40 years. Thru Edsel's reign to now. I was very disappointed. The noodle roll came 10 minutes after dinner. It is an appetizer and my favorite of all asian cuisine. It was terribly loose and had no taste. I am sadly never going back. The experience was a disaster and poor service did not help with what I would guess are new owners. Oh but for the days of the cigar chewing brown suit at the register. Rest in peace-you were an original s.f. experience from the 60's int the 00's

Like going back to my hometown.

I visited sam woh back in 2000. And it was my honeymoon..A Vietnamese man said to us while we in Monterry Bay, that we must go to Sam Woh in SF. So, we went. The food is as authentic as it can get, and the climb up the restaurant reminds me of the old teahouses that we used to have in Singapore and HongKong. The in-house food elevator was just tops...we used to have one of those, in the old "Seventh Heaven Restaurant" in Singapore;s Chinatown. But my memories is with the nice old auntie that does the serving...she is from my own hometown, Toishan county, of Guangdong Province. And of course we speak the same dialect...and we got on very well as we talked about our families.. and our work. If i ever go back to SF again, I will look her up, and will talk about old times again. This restaurant hold special memories for me.

Sam Woh , a SF Experience

Be it the college kids in town doing a late night brown bag beverage or tourists checking out the place , Sam Woh is a SF most. My favorite would be an order of the , Bar B Que Pork Rice Noodle Roll . The Food is mixed and you are not here because you expect a lot , but its an interesting space as you walk through the kitchen and climb to one of the upper level dinning areas . For me its all about the Bar B Que Pork Rice Noodle Roll and hot mustard !!
