Food was impressive. Emphasis on garlic makes it unique

more fun than a braid of garlic
I was in SF last November visiting my son. Granted the place was pricey, but I had the best total tomato salad anywhere. A meal in itself. Loved the garlic spread and the humus, and bought the traditional jar of pickled garlic and a jar of capers. Both are great to remind me of the trip. I found it cute and the booth was very special. The service I found good to a point, as they were very busy. Maybe the pasta or 'regular' dishes are not as good as some might think they should be, but I found it fun and if you gamble on some of there specialty dishes, I do not think you would be disappointed. I intend to go back with my husband on our next vacation.

Tourist Trap
The name is fun and the emphasis on garlic is always welcome, but inside is just a disappointment. It was some of the least authentic pizza I have ever had, especially for a supposed Italian restaurant. The lasagna was completely mediocre, not even worth finishing. It is a kind of silly place (longest garlic braid in the world is haning from the cieling... It's cute, though I didn't know that there was any competition for such a thing) but the food especially for the prices are just poor. I didn't have any of the main courses, but given the quality of the pasta and the fact that they actually have a dish called "Neon Ravioli", I am not in any hurry to go back. I would definitely not recommend this place, especially given that you are in the heart of little italy and there are so many better options.

Blah...
Went for a birthday party. waiter was not rude necessarily, but not present. water was available (self serve), and we were charged extra for bringing in our own cake. food was mediocre, atmosphere was tight (as in claustrophobic)! Not a romantic scene. The "garlic" appeal sounds much greater than it is. I will not return personally, but wouldn't advise against it if you really want to go.

Not all that bad
I read the first review for this place and just wanted to share my own experience which was quite different. The service was excellent when I went with some friends: water glasses filled without you noticing, every need quickly met. Garlic spread is great, food pretty good, but a little pricey for the quality. Atmosphere makes up for it though- great date spot.

Not what we expected
We passed this restaurant a few times and were lured in by the great smell - but what a disappointment to eat there! The food is obviously mass produced - it arrived at the table within 5 minutes of ordering, and was served on cold plates, therefore the food was not too hot either. Service was poor - we asked to be moved as we were seated in a cold back room with no-one else in it, and when we asked to be moved we were told to go ask ourselves at the front. The food was mediocre to say the least. The only good thing about it is the garlic - but again this is probably cooked on a mass scale, and the Signature Spread - which is garlic floating in some kind of rancid oil is not too tempting. Definitely way over priced for what you are served.
