food was nothing to write home about. The server just slammed food into plates, no care at all. The only good thing were their french rolls. I don't know why this place is so popular, I won't go back for sure

When I was 5, way back in 1968, my dad took me here for the first time. And I've been coming back ever since. (Yes, that makes me 50 this year). Tommy Harris had a wonderful idea when he founded this place over 60 years ago. But I wonder if even he would have any idea of the popularity it would generate over the years. The food is absolutely fantastic. The Buffalo Stew is to die for. Brisket made daily is tender and wonderful. The Corn Beef is exceptional. Sourdough rolls for the sandwiches are always fresh. The beer selection is absolutely incredible, spanning the globe with many different types of suds. The prices are great and very reasonable. Service has always been good and it is a family owned and family run business. Centrally located in the heart of San Francisco, it is easy to get to. Parking may be tricky but it is well worth it. I will be back many times over the years. Even though I am in Jersey.

My husband and I thought Tommy's Joynt was fabulous. The brisket was the best we've ever had. Great value, great freshly prepared food! (were in S.F. celebrating 34 yr. anniv.) We're from Jupiter, Florida.

Just like the other person, my father brought me here in the 60's and I too have been coming back on a regular basis. It is a little harder now because I live in NJ but whenever I am in San Francisco which is about twice a year, I always come here. The sandwiches are fantastic. I love the roast beef and they dip the bread in the au jus first off. Also the buffalo stew is to frickin' die for. Even the buffalo stew sandwich is fantastic. Parking can be tricky but I can usually find a spot on Geary street up the hill. I will be coming back here many times in the future.

My dad first took me here in 1969 and I've been coming back ever since. I do not share the same opinion as the other reviewer; quite the opposite. Tommy's is a total San Francisco icon. Their Buffalo Stew is the bomb. Roast beef sandwiches are fresh-carved and fantasticx. The beer selection is enormous. The decor is old but so what, to me it only adds to the tradition. I will continue to return here everytime that I am in SF.

At 7:00 pm, when I got there, the food looked like it had been out for days. The sandwiches are characterized as being stacked a "mile high", however the meat I experienced was scant, not to mention the fact, the bread was stale and lacked character. Admittedly the atmosphere was interesting, yet not nearly enough to offset the uninspired food.
