This sushi restaurant never disappoints. Umami is the ideal spot for impressing a date, out of town guests, or San Francisco newcomers. The ambiance is cozy, yet lively. The bar is always happening (go early for happy hour if you want a bar seat!), or you can choose to cozy up at one of the dining tables, small or large. Besides the fun vibe, Umami has some of the freshest, most delicious fish in the city. The large cuts of fish make for unbelievable nigiri and sashimi, their rolls are original and exciting, and the appetizers are to die for.

i've had the pleasure of dining there on a few occasions, all have been enjoyable. the sushi is very fresh and the menu is quite large & unique. just love the chef's nigiri pairings & the nightly tasting menus. i'd go for these b4 the usual rolls. i tried a lot of different items on the menu and have always been delighted. the decor feels sophisticated and organic @ the same time... with sexy dark wood & nice lighting. also i really enjoy the language lessons that play in the bathroom. a lot of time was taken, with every last detail & it shows. the only downfall i'd say is the t.v. over the bar & an occasionally obnoxious group of sumo hour (happy) enthusiasts.
